America the What:Now

IMG_0623

The heartbeat of America is hurting everyday
The essence of our glory is slowly fading away
The truth about our history I hear the wise ones say

Mass incarceration,

migrant slavery,

impoverished pay

We resist our responsibility, mine and yours at bay
Punishing those who are different,

brown,

poor

or gay

The sun won’t shine for real until we truly must reveal
The change that’s gonna come

through the actions that we lay.

Voter Apprehension Revisted

Calling all my hippie, new age, progressive, liberal, artist, tree hugging, democrat, wild woman, free spirited men and health food eating friends! I am appealing, inspiring, begging, dragging and convincing you to vote in the mid-term election.
I have heard the excuses, I understand the frustration;
Politicians suck, they lie, sell out to corporations, serve the war master, do nothing for you, me, us.
I hear you loud and clear but still nocropped photo excuse, none taken, cop out.
We are the ones; are we not, that value things like: the environment, education, equality, stability and peace.
We do don’t we? We say we do.
We drive a Prius, eat tofu, live in the woods, work hard, quote gurus or news commentators, live simple.
We do as many actions as we can.
We try our best to live up to our “highest consciousness”.
But we don’t vote.

I know this,
not cuz I really know for sure,
but I’ve had a small spit of experience;
:after plugging that experience into the mathematical formula applied to other people’s experience I discovered
that this exists.
When volunteering, last mid-terms, for the Jim Himes’ campaign I was educated to the following fact or theory, or what rings true to me.
They informed me that as “liberal, progressive, democrats” our demographic is actually larger than the “conservative, tea-party, republican, religious right”; however ALL of THEM come out to vote.

We do not.
I have had several friends; beautifully hearted, idealistic, revolutionary friends who do not vote.
They feel dis-empowered, unsure of the candidates, hateful of the system and all other reasonable negatives. I feel your pain. I really really feel your pain but still no excuses.

You’re carjacked by a drunk maniac who binds your hands.
Your only hope to get this nut out from behind the wheel, and most certainly killing you,
is from
the not drunk doopy guy.
The one who snuck into the back seat when the maniac got in.
He offers to take out the drunk driver, ghetto style, and take over the wheel.
Nope,
he didn’t offer to unbind your hands, he’s doopy, but guess what?
There is another person at the corner who jumps in the car.
They see you and your struggle and offers to unbind your hands and drive your car. Nope
they won’t let you have the wheel and that sucks.
You are going on their ride.,
but hey guess what?
There is another friend a few blocks away.
She sees you, she believes in you and wants you to drive the car.
She offers to sit in the passenger seat to help you navigate in order to keep you on course.
It took a few blocks to get to her,
your trust was waging weary,
but man imagine if you stayed with the drunk guy.
Yeah you’d be dead.

Now for a moment, ponder this: the brave men and woman who fought for civil rights decided they wouldn’t participate in the system.
Cuz the system was broken.
A war in the streets.
Hopeless situation.
A Point in history that most certainly was.

Picture the world:
Segregation, would it be the law of the land?
Wonder how possible it would be that slavery would be practiced.
Maybe not in the big city, but how bout in the south; or the poorest communities.
A different style of being in this land for some.
Without that movement.
What started with a pedestrian revolution and “ended” with a vote.

Ok many of y’all can’t relate to issues of race, how about the woman’s movement. I like having the right to vote, and though I have fantasies of being rescued by a rich man and living a life of leisure (not very progressive); I am certainly glad that I am not confined to a life of a submissive housewife.
Not getting ya.

Shout out to all my gay brother and sister’s!!! Remember prop 8.
Do you remember what caused the failure?
Was it that Los Angeles wasn’t gay friendly; there is a whole area called boy’s town for gods sake.
Nope,
It was because those who were against it made sure to vote and those who took it for granted stayed home. It has taken almost 6years to regain the momentum of equal marriage rights for homosexuals.
Would you say we could afford that same lag time with global warming, equal pay for woman, healthcare; true universal healthcare, solar energy and any other new innovation that we haven’t even discussed yet because we have been too busy, complacent, indifferent,
Un-conscientiously objecting
to finally resolve the ones we have.

So please, again, don’t let the crazy drunk guy continue to steer the ship, the plane, the congress, the senate. This is the system we have right here, right now, in front of you and me and US.
Until we are all engaged enough to change the system into something better…. Vote dammit.. It is the absolute least path of resistance, and you get a sticker

Voter Apprehension

Folks don’t vote no moreIMG_0169

They think they are above

Not realizing that it is feeding the very corruption they despise of

The voice of humanity is the one we need to hear

When you turn a blind eye what wins is the seat of fear

The people of my past, native, black and womankind

Denied this privileged voice, still today are left behind

Disenfranchised are the ones kept away from knowledge’s door

The common link of suffering, treading vastly on the poor

We can call them out together with awareness and a care

This vehicle democracy will no doubt get us there

It takes some time and doing

Dr King would proudly say

Shut down complacent blindness

Transform indifference

Now

Today

Jobs at all cost….

Jobs.. jobs are what we Americans need…

Jobs at all cost.

Jobs despite the destruction; or at least that is the message I get from the latest BP commercial with the fancy lady bundled up in front of a glistening Alaskan mountain. Jobs are necessary,,,

Jobs are the holy grail to be sought and saved no matter what; or at least that is what I read in the NY times today as a summary of quotes by Kentucky senator Mitch McConnell.

Representing coal country and standing against carbon emission legislation.

Energy, fuel, global life juice is motivating a mad dash of wealthy developers to covet pristine Norwegian land; ironically made accessible through global warming melting of the glaciers.

To dig into the profitable underground rivers of oil.

Ends justify the means to satisfy our immediate necessity to create jobs….

Jobs…. the disguise used to help wealthy vultures gain more wealth.

I feel the pressure, I know the pain of un and under employment.

I have experienced the stress of knowing the job I have barely sustains

I have witnessed the grind that is not exactly healthy

No choice cuz you have to face the real fear

Without employment you are at the bottom of all life.

A penny in the pot is worth more than the misery of nothing.

Left out of the entertaining pleasures of life, let alone the survival tools of housing, food and clothing.

Aware tragically of the moral depression of being labeled and labeling yourself a “loser”, “lazy” and worse of all “unproductive”

The argument tugs at our heart-strings deeply because we all are susceptible to the same condition.

At any moment, in an instant, this could be us

So Jobs…

Jobs… at all cost.

The extreme wealthy found the winning formula to get the people at the Achilles’ heals.

Fear of utter financial alienation and worse

Fear of transportation annihilation…

Our cars are our freedom and I myself have been made panicked by a simple over night stay at the auto shop.

I fully believe the sun can provide all the energy needed. My brain can comprehend this reality.

I know there is more than enough wind and water to give us all the freedom we want.

My eyes find it evident.

But money…

Money at all cost

Immediate financial gain…

At this time, now.

This American style agreement.

In search of a mission

Hello All,

             IMG_0241

As I navigate through this crazy world of online media, applications and technological apparatus, I seemed to have lost my welcoming post that I wrote last week.  I find it very fitting, considering that I have grown anxiously comfortable with pen and paper and begrudgingly gave myself permission to dip my toe into the blogging world.  One of the many challenges I am learning to overcome as I brave through my fear of sharing my inner world with the outer cyber-sphere.

Each day as I find myself inspired to write my pain, frustration, creativity and musings on facebook, I see the need to shift to a new forum;  One that will allow me to fully express that which needs to be expressed.  I joke with many about naming this blog “shit that pisses me off”, and if not for the fear of sounding too cynical, or bitter I would gladly do so.  More honestly I must find a title to capture the essence of my personal mission of beauty, truth, self-expression, and sustainability.  So as of now a title is TBA.  I see my writing as a baby that needs to experience the world before its personality can be assessed.   Like a child, grown and little alike, words needs freedom to be, say and do in order to use its wings.

I must always underscore that I am not an expert at anything and admit that I know absolutely nothing, though I hold strong opinions about everything.  I am wise enough to take my beliefs very seriously but not my credibility.  I am always open to passionate peaceful conversations; though please not on this site. Keep your written comments to ones of effective support and encouragement and If you have insightful information to educate me with, I am a phone call away…….

Let the journey begin….
